1. Chinese Temple (Guan Yin Temple)
The Guan Yin Temple is without a doubt one of the most impressive temples in Koh Phangan. Located on a hillside near Chaloklum, this colourful Chinese-style temple complex offers beautiful architecture combined with spectacular jungle views.
The temple stands out with its bright red buildings, detailed dragon decorations, traditional roofs, and peaceful terraces overlooking the surrounding landscape. It is one of the best places on the island to take photos while enjoying a quiet moment away from the busy areas.
Originally, the project was planned as a lighthouse to help sailors locate the island at night. However, enough donations were collected to create a complete temple complex instead.
Bonus: Wat Ruese Pa Saeng Tham
Right next to the Guan Yin Temple, you can find Wat Ruese Pa Saeng Tham, a smaller and more authentic temple hidden in the jungle. Here you can discover a beautiful golden rock, local Buddhist activities, and a much quieter atmosphere.
Location
The Guan Yin Temple is located beside the main road, around 5 minutes by motorbike from Chaloklum village. It is easy to reach by scooter or car and clearly marked with signs.
Entrance Fee

The Herbal Sauna is a perfect place for a wellness break after exploring the island. Visitors can enjoy traditional Thai herbal steam treatments, relaxing areas, showers, and affordable massages.
The massages here are especially popular among travellers and are a great way to relax tired muscles after days of exploring beaches and viewpoints.

The impressive white and gold design immediately catches your attention, while the detailed dragon decorations around the entrances show the incredible craftsmanship behind Thai temple architecture.
Every year, usually around the end of February or beginning of March, the temple hosts a traditional festival. Dates can change, so it is best to ask at the temple directly if you are visiting during this period.

Its name means “Temple of the Small Mountain”, referring to its location on a hill near Thong Sala. Built in the middle of the 20th century, this peaceful temple provides a glimpse into the island’s traditional Buddhist heritage.
